The new OPAC is now web-based and now is easier to locate since it has been integrated in the all-new SLU Libraries Website created by CICS-ICTR Laboratory.
The new OPAC now has a user-friendly interface and is much easier to use than it was before. A person does not need to become a computer expert to use it. The user can search a book by simply typing the keyword, an author, a subject, or a title of the book. The user can also enter the call number or if he is not sure of what he wants to look for, he can search by category. There is also a feature called the “Bookbag, which the student can use to store information about the books he is interested in.
The user needs to have basic knowledge in simple Boolean operations.
A new user can easily find help using the Help option available. It provides fast access to basic information about OPAC including short discussions on each and every button. Also included are help topics on searching, refining the search, and using the search results.
The user can also narrow down his search by using either the Limiters or the Power. In the Limiters option, the user can specify the date range of the books to be searched for, the reading level, the interest level of the person, and also the type of material to be searched.
